Intellectual Property rights protect the unique expressions of your ideas in things you've created. There are nine different types of IP.
Some, like Copyrights and Trade Secrets, don't need formal registrations. Others require more detailed application processes to ensure your ideas are legally protected.
Intangible Assets are valuable assets that a business owns but don't have a physical form. They include things like Intellectual Property, brand recognition, customer lists, research and development, and goodwill.
These assets can contribute significantly to a company's value and competitive advantage but are not tangible or physical in nature.
Before registering, it's important to check if your idea is unique by doing a search for existing Intellectual Property, known as a 'Prior Art Search'. Not all IP types need this search. Here are links to search tools in Dubai to help you know when to do this.
Ministry of Economy (MoEc) Patents and Industrial Designs
Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA)
When applying for IP it is important to consider the geographical significance of the idea you want to protect. We recommend conducting IP searches using other research tools around the world:
Patents, Utility Certificates and Integrated Circuit Designs Search (WIPO Patentscope)
Industrial Designs (WIPO Global Design Database)
Trademarks (WIPO Global Brand Database)
European Patent Register
